So you think you need to implement a Definition of Ready, or someone else thinks so and is telling you to do it. Don’t. At least not right away. Why do you need a Definition of Ready? Have you tried any other ways of solving those problems?

The Definition of Ready is a limitation on Agility. There is no argument against this. In an ideal Agile environment, a team should be able to start with simply an idea and end with an iteration on that idea that advances either the user’s value from the product or the team’s knowledge.


There are very few practices that are universally optimal in all contexts. Thinking about and planning the work you intend to do in small, independent, and valuable slices is one of these unicorn practices for any team that wants to be truly Agile.
